But lately I've had some great events - a reading with Larry Tye and Junot Diaz (moderated by Dr. Suzanne Koven) at the Concord Book Festival. I visited a gorgeous store, Andover Books, where I got to read casually to a delightful audience in front of a roaring fire. And last night I read at the newly opened Phoenix Books in Burlington VT, where I saw old friends - and read a story whose title was the same as the place I was reading.
So these three events have required a bit of driving - three hours in, three hours back - and I almost always come back home at night so I can be here for the girls in the morning. Which means I've had some late nights in the car on dark Vermont roads, slurping coffee at 11 PM, listening to a Justin Bieber song with the windows down so I can stay awake in the cold air, scanning the roads for moose and deer.
And would it kill me to iron that green silk shirt? Yes. Yes it would.
